Monument to Queen Victoria
Artist: Based on Princess Louise
Year: 1900
Material: Bronze
Service: Restoration
Since 1900, this monument to Queen Victoria presides over the steps of Royal Victoria College, now the Schulich School of Music. The bronze statue is a copy of a marble statue at Kensington Palace made by Princess Louise, Queen Victoria's daughter. The bronze copy, commissioned by Lord Strathcona, founder of the College, was unveiled in Montreal in 1900 and has since remained in its original location.
The uniformity and lustre imparted to the surface by the conservation treatment enhance the intricate details and the skills of the artist.
