Hommage à Jeanne d’Arc
Artist: J & P Brunet
Year: 1917
Materials: Concrete, stone, steel
This monument inaugurated in 1917 was commissioned by Mayor Wilfrid Lorrain to honor the courage and bravery of soldiers who died in Europe. Joan of Arc was beatified in 1909, then canonized in 1920.
This monument has benefited from a major conservation treatment which has made it possible to save it. The lower third of the statue as well as the sword pommel have been restored, the cracks filled in, the plumbing changed, the pennant restored and the whole protected. The pedestal is also stabilized, cracks filled, surfaces unstained and gaps replaced with new stones. The monument regained its full grandeur and will be appreciated again for many years to come.
