Hommage aux fondateurs de la ville de Montréal

Artists: Pierre Gaboriau and Pierre Osterrath

Year: 1969

Materials: Glass, steel, paint

Service: Restoration

This monumental backlit stained glass was inaugurated in 1969 when the Berri-UQAM metro station opened. This modern work represents three important historical figures for Montreal: Jérôme le Royer de la Dauversière; Jeanne Mance and Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve.

Before our intervention, the artwork was in a critical condition, particularly the acrylic-painted section in the upper quarter. This area was consolidated, retouched, and the entire artwork was cleaned and stabilized. This restoration, carried out at night in articulated boom lifts above the tracks, in the midst of a construction site, was a challenge successfully met by the DL Heritage team.
