Sherbrooke War Memorial
Artist: George William Hill
Year: 1926
Materials: Bronze, granite
This monument was erected in memory of the Sherbrooke soldiers who fought in the First World War. It was created by George William Hill, one of the most important Canadian sculptors of the 20th century and the author of the monument to Sir George-Étienne Cartier in Montreal. Because of its outdoor location near urban traffic, the artwork requires special attention and care.
The maintenance work completed in 2021 allowed to assess the monument’s general condition as well as its conservation needs before cleaning the surface, removing powdery corrosion, waxing and polishing to give these great sculptures back their sheen.
