Portrait carrefour

Artist: Danielle Sauvé

Year: 1995

Materials: Copper alloys, wood, granite

The artwork titled Portrait carrefour greets visitors at the entrance of the Dorval Library. The front of the round shape is flat and covered in copper alloy sheets, whereas the reverse is curved and made of wood. The sculpture stands on a black granite oval imbedded in the tiled floor.

The bottom of the artwork had been exposed to products that promoted the development of corrosion on the metal, giving it a distracting heterogeneous appearance. The conservation treatment involved cleaning the artwork, treating the metal to remove any possible contaminants, retouching the affected zone, and protecting the surfaces. The artwork has now retrieved its visual unity and its intended sheen.
