Cailloudo

Artist: Charles Daudelin

Year: 1990

Materials: Bronze, painted steel

The sculpture Cailloudo was created by Charles Daudelin to embellish the fountain in front of the Saint-Laurent Library in Montreal. The ovoid volume seems to be emerging from the water, and water cascades out of two openings located in the middle part of the sculpture.

The continuous water flow and deposition of minerals contained in the city’s water led to the development of localized corrosion on the copper alloy. Moreover, the painted steel seats showed major signs of deterioration. The treatment consisted in neutralizing the corrosion and protecting metals from the threat of corrosion in the future.
